AYUNA makes its 100% natural and biodegradable soaps through a chemical process in which a fatty element is neutralised in a basic aqueous medium to generate soap + glycerine. This reaction is known as Cold Saponification, a method involving: mixing together ingredients, saponification and sedimentation or curing.
Unlike conventional industrial processes, artisanal cold saponification is a much lengthier and more delicate process involving no heat, that guarantees the formula retains all properties of its ingredients, as well as a very high natural glycerine content (at least 7-8%). By using top-quality raw materials, the artisanal cold process does not require repeated washing of the mixture, which is typical in the industrial process—thus reducing its water footprint and making it a much more sustainable and eco-friendly technique.
